- First off, they are so cute, because they are mini.
- Second, you can have multiple cupcake flavors without even eating one whole cupcake.
- The whole experience is fun, even the store fronts are tiny!
- There’s multiple locations all over NYC, so really wherever you are, there’s probably a Baked by Melissa close by.
- Each little cupcake is about a dollar, and they make excellent gift packages of a 25 cupcake set for $25!
Skating into 2018
I did try my best to be stylish while we went skating on the becoming-famous Arrowhead Park skating trail! However, it’s hard to think of style at -25 celsius. Hence the hat, puffy coat, attractive snow pants, puffy mittens, and generally insulated look.
It has been such a nice holiday break filled with fun and activities and this one might have been my favorite! We got all bundled up and headed out to experience the wonders of the Canadian winter. It was -25 when I woke up, but by noon it had “warmed up” to -14 so we convinced ourselves that we would be moving and therefore wouldn’t be cold. With five layers, two pairs of pants, and two sets of mittens on; this turned out to be true!
We had a grand time skating through the forest and it felt so magical and new to not be skating in a rink inside, but to instead be surrounded by tree covered with fresh snow. It felt very much like being in Narnia. Just as we were finishing up it started softly snowing! It really couldn’t have been a more picturesque day. As we were preparing to leave I started to feel the cold again, but the whole time we were skating I didn’t feel it at all.
I loved starting the new year with this new activity. It embodied the sense of happiness and adventure that I hope this whole year holds. Skating and being in a forest was just so much fun. They had other activities too, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and hiking, but none of it even seemed closed to as fun as the skating! It was a perfect way to start 2018, and I already am looking forward to going again. What did you do to celebrate the new year?
Cheekwood and Holiday Feels
We were in Nashville just before Christmas and found our way to Cheekwood Botanical Gardens to see the holiday lights!
It wasn’t a super cold night so we had a great time walking the garden paths and then seeing inside the Cheekwood Mansion that was built by the creator of Maxwell House Coffee! It was a wonderful way to spend a festive evening with hot cocoa, lights, and Christmas spirit! They even had an adorable toy train running through a little village all decked out for Christmas.
One of my favorite things about this time of year is that we get to slooowwww down for a few days and just enjoy being together with the people who’s company we enjoy! Whether that means a walk under some holiday lights or a big holiday meal it’s nice to not have to rush off to the next thing and to be able to relax for a little and really connect with each other! It helps remind me to make time for baking cookies, or going to Disney on ice because those are the little moments that we end up treasuring so much with our loved ones!
When this time of year comes around it always helps me keep my priorities in order so that I can make sure to spend my time as wisely as possible, after all, it’s one of the few things we can’t get more of! Happy Holidays! I hope you had the best time with your loved ones and I’m wishing you all the best for 2018!
Sleek and Shine City
It’s a changing time of year. Luckily I’ve got Garnier new Sleek and Shine to help convince my hair to act like it’s normal self!
The season’s changing, the landscape is changing, the weather is changing, schedule’s are changing, and my hair is changing its behavior! Every year around this time my hair decides to change it up and starts acting totally different than the way it behaves all summer. But I tried some new things and I’m feeling this Sleek and Shine line.
Part of the confusion for my hair is that we turn the heat on and the house suddenly gets a lot drier than normal. Not just any heat either, but wood stoves. Which are SO cozy and warm but also SUPER drying; we lose any humidity in the air inside! So to combat the changing climate I changed up my hair routine and started using Garnier Sleek and Shine!
I also started “rinsing and repeating” which I know almost every shampoo bottle says, but I finally started doing it and love the difference! I also started using a styling spray to prep my hair and between that and a double shampoo my hair is back to it’s bouncy, behaving self! Now I’ve got my hair back under control and just in time for all the holiday pictures.
The kind of pictures you take while decorating and gathering with friends! Speaking of decorating, we started decorating one of our trees a few days ago and it also happened to be the day that I finally mastered my new hair care routine! So naturally I decide it was the perfect moment to capture my hair behaving AND holiday decorating! Two of my favorite things!
CTV Morning Live
Last week we were on CTV Morning Live in Ottawa!
For a musician being able to share your music is the most fun. Getting to share it on national television when you know so many people are watching is both exhilarating and exciting. Once we arrived we were buzzed in through the security door and then checked in with security. After that we were treated to unlimited amounts of Tim Horton’s donuts and coffee while waiting for our CTV handler to prep us for being on air.
Once we were mic’ed up I started to feel butterflies because I was about to perform my original music on live television for the first time. However, the host was so friendly and warm! Which helped me remembered I was about to do something I’d dreamed about for so long! We were on CTV Morning Live to talk about the big giveaway that we have going on for a fan and a friend to visit Nashville TN and the new single, “Earthquake”!
I’ve always wondered what it would be like the first time I played on television; what would the interview be like? Would they try to catch me off guard with unexpected questions? What would it be like to have television cameras moving around right in front of you while playing? But it was SO MUCH FUN and I’m already excited for the next one!
Of course I was fortunate to have my drummer there with me to play CTV Morning Live. Which made playing the song even better! Having other musician’s to play with always makes the performance even more fun. After the show we went up to Ottawa’s New Country and had a great interview about Earthquake with them as well. We always love visiting Ottawa. I’m hoping soon we’ll have a full band show there!
Garnier Goes Autumn
Sitting down with a cup of hot (or iced) tea and just enjoying this time of year can be so relaxing.
Garnier sent me this fabulous tea steeper and tea cup with my newest set of shampoos, and it was perfect to use for an evening on the dock. We’re having the best fall weather in Muskoka. Warm days and cool nights make for perfect autumn foliage! It’s still nice enough to sit on the dock and enjoy a drink while watching the sunset. The perfect way to unwind after a hectic day, whether that day was meetings, studio time, rehearsals, or a travel day.
I just got another bag of goodies from my partnership with Garnier to try out! I’m loving this peachy smell to carry me into fall and it’s part of their #superfruitssuperhair campaign. Which means it’s also healthy for my hair and not just deliciously scented. That’s one of my favorite things about Garnier; all their hair products smell so great. I think my ultimate favorite was the Cactus scented shampoo and conditioner set, but this peach scented set is also divine!
It’s a fresh and sweet scent and I love catching a bit of it any time I turn my head. I also love this tea cup Garnier sent me! I’m using it for ice tea now but I’ll definitely be using it for hot tea one of these nights!
We’ve been traveling a lot and doing a lot of radio visits to talk about the giveaway and the new single, Earthquake. An evening to recharge with some quiet time on the dock listening to the crickets and watching the sun set was perfect. Hope you all are enjoying these early days of autumn!
