The Dress That Earthquake Built

I was trying to come up with the look for my music video for weeks, I’d bought a few different looks but upon consideration nothing was really channeling the feeling I wanted to see in the video.

About 36 hours prior to the video I that I had a vision of a black dress, my mum who is very talented with a sewing needle and thread said she would help me bring my vision to life.  We started with a trip to the fabric store and a visit to the garment district in Toronto.

She then fashioned the dress of my dreams into a reality so that I could wear it for this music video.  All in all, the dress was a magical concoction and seeing the final product in the video has got me pretty pumped.

It Starts With an Idea

I love the time leading up to a new release.  It’s so special to be putting something new together, shaping what it’s going to look like, how it will be received, and delivering it to an audience.  I love the process.

Part of that process is photos, videos, media, design, graphics, and obviously music, all of which I like to take a part in the creation of for every release.  On Monday we did a photo shoot for a project coming up and that involved doing hair and makeup.

The makeup session is always so much fun; to decide what you want the look to be, the feel, how it’s going to be conveyed, does it go with the outfits, and so many other points to consider.  This makeup look was exactly what I wanted for the photo shoot and captured the concept I was also conveying with the outfits!  Excited to share the pictures with you!

Birthday Weekend in Toronto

Last weekend we went to Toronto to celebrate my birthday that’s happening on the 26th.  Toronto is one of my favorite cities because there is so much to do, some many beautiful spots, great food, great shows, and great shopping!

For dinner we went to Momofuku which I love for their desserts and atmosphere, then went to a musical, and the following day explored a bit of the city ending the weekend with Eva’s Original Chimneys, which I am now obsessed with.

We also found ourselves at Peace Collective, which is one of my favorite Canadian brands!  It was such a fun little getaway and I adored having the chance to be in Toronto and to soak in a city I love so much!

You Deserve It

Summer is such a great season, and I always think it’s my favorite until fall arrives!  I’ve been creating music, content, new material, and all sorts of things all summer.

Sometimes it’s important to look at the work you’ve been doing, where it’s gotten you and to appreciate your own effort.  Especially if you’re a motivated individual, it can be easy to overlook the progress you’ve made and focus only on what you still have to accomplish.

Perspective is important, so take time acknowledge yourself, you deserve it!  Have a great Tuesday!

Canada 150 Show

I love performing, it’s my favorite part of making music. I love everything else as well, but performing my songs on stage, in the hopes that they inspire, help, or bring happiness to others is my happy place.

For Canada’s 150th birthday I was the headliner for the Parry Sound 150 Show and my band and I had a fantastic time playing at the Stockey Centre.  We played a two hour show and I debuted some brand new songs, as well as my radio singles.

One of my favorite moments from the show was when the audience recognized a couple of my songs from the radio! It was magical for me.

Can’t wait to be back up with the band doing what I love in just a few weeks! Until then checkout my tour dates to see if I’m visiting your city!

The Happiest Place On Earth

Last time we were down in Florida we had a free evening between events so naturally we went to the happiest place on earth! I didn’t know this but if your at a conference on Disney property you can get discounted tickets for evenings at the park!

We happened to have perfect lighting and even the rain held off for a few hours.  When I was much younger I performed at Disneyland singing and then we got to spend the day in the park, which probably contributes to why I find both Disneyland and Disney World so magical!

My favorite ride is always the teacups, a classic!  Have you been? What’s your favorite ride?
