Fork and Spoon Something New!

Being on the road a lot makes it easy to just eat whatever, whenever. Recently though I’ve been watching what I eat really closely, which is why I want to share Fork and Spoon with you!

No, not MY Fork and Spoon, but this great restaurant I just discovered!  Recently, I started getting a little ill if I ate to much bread, pasta, baked goods, etc. but I thought it would pass.  I tried not eating any thing with gluten in it and a few times I slipped up, each time I would get the same pain and discomfort.

Fork and SpoonFork and Spoon
Now it’s been several weeks and I’ve been really strict with myself about not eating anything with flour in it…and I’m feeling better!  Which is why I want to share Fork and Spoon with you.  I’m exploring new options for this new lifestyle change!
Fork and Spoon Fork and Spoon Fork and Spoon
Fork and Spoon is a Japanese restaurant with Thai dishes that has two menus.  Well, three sometimes.  It has an all-you-can-eat menu, which is great if you’ve got a big appetite.  It has an a la carte menu from which you can order any of the entrees or sushi rolls.  However, this third option is my favorite.  They have an amazing lunch special menu on week days!  You can get 8 pieces of nigiri sushi, a spicy salmon roll, a California roll, soup, and seaweed salad for under $20!
Fork and Spoon Fork and Spoon
I’ve been on weekends and weekdays so I’ve tried both menus, and I like them both! The a la carte portions are much larger. Whereas the all you can eat portions are smaller and made so that you can try many things.  Beware though: you have to finish everything you order from the all-you-can-eat menu!  If you love Japanese or Thai food then you will probably LOVE Fork and Spoon like I do. If you have a food sensitivity to gluten, wheat, or flour, then this is a great option to feel like you can order pretty much anything you want and not worry about getting sick!

Colette Grand Cafe Brunch

We recently went to brunch in Toronto so naturally I had to source out the very best brunch spot possible.  I instagrammed my way through Toronto influencers and Toronto restaurants and finally settled on Colette Grand Cafe.

Colette Colette
What I love about brunch is that it can really elevate your weekend.  It gives your Sunday an extra little spike of fun and it’s a great way to wrap up the weekend.  Whether you consider Sunday the start to your week or the finish, considered brunch to be starting (or ending) on a high note.
Colette

The first thing I loved was the location.  Which I didn’t realize until we were about half way there.  It’s inside Yorkdale; one of Toronto’s best shopping centers! After perusing some of our favorite shops we made our way to Colette’s for our reservation time.  First I loved the design aspect.  It’s truly a perfect brunch spot.  Situated at the back of Holt Renfrew behind Miu Miu and Fendi is the discreet location.  After feasting our eyes on all the latest spring fashions it was time to feed our tastebuds!  We sat down and ordered some decadent dishes that felt “brunch” worthy.  I feel it’s a wasted brunch if you don’t order something over the top from the menu.
Colette Colette Colette
Then we did what brunch was made for; relax, chat, muse, and relive the best moments of the weekend.  Let’s be honest, brunch truly exists for two reasons, but in my opinion the main reason is to connect!  That’s exactly what we did.  It was great to have “pancakes for the table” as I’ve heard Rosie from The Londoner says, and to have the most delectable seafood omelette.  We laughed, admired the other fashionable women around us, discussed blog business, and the plans for promoting the new record.  All in all, a truly magnificent Sunday.

Entering the Labothéry

I found my way to Labothéry; the tea laboratory! But first, let me tell you why I love tea so much.

labothéry labothéry
When I was a little girl I used to love having tea parties.  With my mum, with my dolls, with anyone I could coerce into sitting down and enjoying imaginary tea from my tiny china tea set.  As I got older and started high school my mum would make me a cup of tea every morning with breakfast.  Now it’s such a part of who I am I couldn’t imagine my life without a good cuppa! Which brings me to Labothéry.  Many years ago I was introduced to bubble tea and I just adore it.  I love the now vast array of flavors, and all the fun surprises you can add to the experience; tapioca bubbles, pearl bubbles, popping pearls, etc.  So when I found a “design your own tea”experience had been created and it was called, Labothéry, I had to go.
labothéry labothéry labothéry
Labothéry isn’t exactly what I imagined, but it didn’t disappoint.  First you decide hot or cold.  Then you pick your flavor; milk tea, tea, or slushie tea.  All the flavors are colorful and fun!  Then you can sweeten the milk or regular tea with various amounts of predetermined maple syrup.  After that you get to choose your additional ingredients; tapioca, strawberry pearls, brown sugar bubbles, among many other choices!  Then you become “Dr. Such and Such” (because they write your name in a little “Dr.” name section on the cup) and then they mix your drink.  After it’s done they call out, “Dr. Such and Such, your strawberry milk tea is ready!”.

Then we sat down to enjoy our custom blended beverages.  At the end of the tables on the wall they have large chalkboards where you can write your masterpiece recipe or leave a little friendly note! I’ll definitely be visiting again.  I found the experience quite novel and a fun approach to bubble tea.
labothéry
*Word of caution! I tried several new things when building my concoction to try and get a full experience.  Most of what I tried was wonderful, but the brown sugar bubbles were not my favorite.  The texture is very different from tapioca bubbles!

Pandora: The Other Side of Disney

We found our way to the Avatarian land of Pandora while visiting Disneyworld!

I have to say, even if you don’t want to wait in a long line for the rides you should go walk around this new addition to Animal Kingdom just because it’s so well designed. The floating sky islands and all the “plant life” both real and fantasy is so beautiful and striking. The attention to detail is so on brand for Disney, but some aspects even surpassed my expectations. The employees name tags in all the Disney parks say their name and where their from. However, in Pandora the name tags say the name of the employee and instead of their hometown it says, “Earth” because we’re supposed to be on another planet! The food is also better than I expected…with a few surprises, like boba bubbles in the main course!

PandoraPandora

I know that Disney employs specific smells in different parts of the park to create a certain atmosphere.  It definitely felt like Pandora had it’s own scent.

I couldn’t put my finger on it exactly, but I’m going to guess that the great imagineers at Disney cooked up something special.  Overall the whole area is worth just walking around and exploring because the whole experience is all encompassing once you cross over into Pandora from the Animal Kingdom.

Pandora

We did ride both the major attraction rides in Pandora!

While I enjoyed both, I would say the Flight of Passage ride was really an experience worth waiting for. Full disclosure, we didn’t wait more than 65 minutes for either ride.  So I can’t say I would feel the same way after waiting for 2 or 3 hours. I did feel the ride was worth the roughly hour long wait. If you’re with small children then the Navi River Journey might be a better ride, but the Flight of Passage is truly thrilling.  It’s a more technologically advanced in a  Soarin’ over California way.  Have you been to  Disney’s Pandora already?! If so, what did you think?

CCMAs with Starbucks in Saskatoon

We partnered with Starbucks for the morning of radio row to give away mini pumpkin spice lattes to celebrate fall and music!  I’m no exception when it comes to fall…I love it just as much as the next girl and fall wouldn’t be the same without the taste of pumpkin spice!

I also love the vibe inside Starbucks, it’s a great spot for a meeting, to get some work done, or to meet a friend for a chat.  So to help bring a smile to everyone on radio row who woke up at 5am, Starbucks brought the joy of autumn in the form of tiny whip cream topped lattes!

It was so fun to bring a treat to brighten the morning and everyone I spoke to loved the little treat to spice up the morning. Thanks Starbucks! We loved celebrating autumn and music with you in Saskatoon!
