I travel a lot. When I’m home and I see friends, I always hear, “You’re back!”. I love seeing new places, I always have, but seeing them because I get to play a show? Way, way, way, exciting. One thing I’ve learned though…instruments are heavy, which means unless I want to feel like a sherpa, I have to condense and lose the non-essentials.
Two things I need for every show
- Guitar – obviously.
- Microphone

In my carry-on I try and keep it light because toting a guitar around is heavy enough. But I still work from my computer all the time and what if inspiration strikes?! So this is my list of chic musician carry on essentials. Water bottle not pictured.
- Macbook
- iPad
- iPhone
- notebook
- sunglasses
- wallet
- ear plugs
- chapstick and lipgloss
- perfume
- solar charger
- earbuds

Travel outfits are always tricky, but I try to bring as many versatile pieces as I can. Things that can go from plane to meeting, or from plane to night out.
Here are just a few things I feel are great that can be worn a couple time and still look good.
- black denim
- modal t shirt
- denim shorts
- chambray shirt
- street sneakers
- wedge heels

Bricktops – This was so good and so decadent! The cookie was hot, but the frigid ice cream balanced every bite! I was even able to take it home and savor it.
Germantown Cafe – I love these beignets! In fact they spoiled me when it came to trying Cafe Du Monde in New Orleans, the famous beignet just wasn’t as dreamy as these! They also aren’t on the menu! They are served as “bread” for the table on Sunday brunch, so make sure to get there early!
Goozys – The great intimate setting of this place is only surpassed by the excellence of their desserts. This molten cake and ice cream combo was so decadent and if it hadn’t been perfectly portioned could have been too much, but it was JUST the right amount! Not to mention the adorable presentation in the mini mason jar.
Acme – This is more than just a restaurant, this is a four story bar, restaurant, and venue on Broadway in downtown Nashville! The venue was amazing, but so was the peach cobbler with vanilla bean ice cream. It was a classic southern dessert, and one that shouldn’t be messed with. Acme delivered the classic and it was just as delicious as you could hope a peach cobbler would be.

Black Tap NYC – These shakes are even better than they look.
Baked by Melissa – These cupcakes are almost gilt free because you can eat about 10 before you reach the size equivalent of a full size cupcake. Which means 10 different flavors to try!
Book of Mormon – Hands down, hysterical. This musical is exploding with talent and stomach-aching laughter. It could be considered inappropriate (read: very inappropriate) but if you can take a joke, I highly recommend this show.
The High Line – an old train line converted into a walking park that floats above Chelsea. It’s beautiful, free, and very unique.
5th Ave – Stroll this street. It’s iconic, beautiful, and if you are headed up the island it leads you right to Central Park!
Get Lost – Okay, so this isn’t really a place, but it’s the best advice I can give. The best moments of New York City are hidden in the side streets, small shops, and different neighborhoods.
