Musician’s Travel Guide

I travel a lot.  When I’m home and I see friends, I always hear, “You’re back!”.  I love seeing new places, I always have, but seeing them because I get to play a show? Way, way, way, exciting.  One thing I’ve learned though…instruments are heavy, which means unless I want to feel like a sherpa, I have to condense and lose the non-essentials.

Two things I need for every show

  1. Guitar – obviously.
  2. Microphone

In my carry-on I try and keep it light because toting a guitar around is heavy enough. But I still work from my computer all the time and what if inspiration strikes?! So this is my list of chic musician carry on essentials.  Water bottle not pictured.

  1. Macbook
  2. iPad
  3. iPhone
  4. notebook
  5. sunglasses
  6. wallet
  7. ear plugs
  8. chapstick and lipgloss
  9. perfume
  10. solar charger
  11. earbuds

Travel outfits are always tricky, but I try to bring as many versatile pieces as I can.  Things that can go from plane to meeting, or from plane to night out.

Here are just a few things I feel are great that can be worn a couple time and still look good.

  1. black denim
  2. modal t shirt
  3. denim shorts
  4. chambray shirt
  5. street sneakers
  6. wedge heels

Best Desserts of Nashville

I love dessert! Truly I do, if it’s sweet and decadent I’m probably going to love it.  I decided to take it upon myself to find the best desserts in Nashville.  I’ve had desserts in almost every city I’ve visited because I almost can’t say no, especially if I know I may not visit the city again soon!  Nashville has a great dessert selection, in fact it’s really a city for foodies. When I’m not on the road, in a cowrite, rehearsing, or performing, I try and take full advantage of all the cuisine variety.  I’ll probably do a favorites restaurant post at some point, but for now here are my favorite desserts in Nashville!

Bricktops - This was so good and so decadent! The cookie was hot, but the frigid ice cream balanced  every bite! I was even able to take it home and savor it.   Bricktops – This was so good and so decadent! The cookie was hot, but the frigid ice cream balanced  every bite! In fact they spoiled me when it came to trying Cafe Du Monde in New Orleans, the famous beignet just wasn't as dreamy as these! They also aren't on the menu! They also aren’t on the menu! They are served as “bread” for the table on Sunday brunch, so make sure to get there early! Goozys - The great intimate setting of this place is only surpassed by the excellence of their desserts. This molten cake and ice cream combo was so decadent and if it hadn't been perfectly portioned could have been too much, but it was JUST the right amount!  Not to mention the adorable presentation in the mini mason jar.  Goozys – The great intimate setting of this place is only surpassed by the excellence of their desserts. Acme - This is more than just a restaurant, this is a four story bar, restaurant, and venue on Broadway in downtown Nashville! The venue was amazing, but so was the peach cobbler with vanilla bean ice cream.  It was a classic southern dessert, and one that shouldn't be messed with.  Acme delivered the classic and it was just as delicious as you could hope a peach cobbler would be. Dry Bar

When I hear this I think of a bar that doesn’t serve alcohol, but this is so much better than that.  It’s a blow out bar!  Who doesn’t love having their hairs coiffed into perfection…by someone else?!  Not only that, but they serve champagne, coffee, tea, and have a great product line as well.  You choose your style from a menu and then can customize it.  I usually do my own hair, but this is so much fun, I have to go every once in a while.  Also, this is not an ad, I genuinely love what Dry Bar is all about.

Chelsea Market

This was something I read about, but it was hidden in a bunch of other information.  Now I know why; it’s amazing!  If you enjoy pop-up markets, flea markets with small designers, one of kind items, and good food this is the place for you!  It’s in an old warehouse and has pretty much everything you could dream up, clothes, jewelry, small restaurants, coffee, ice cream, and more.  We picked up some one-of-kind clothing, spices, and perused a plethora of hard to find kitchen accessories.

Guide to New York City

Every time I have the opportunity to visit New York City, I try to make a list beforehand of all the new/interesting/hot places and things I haven’t seen yet.  This trip was no exception and I got to explore a couple places that were incredible.  I also indulged in some tasty treats while I was there, and finally got to see two musicals I’ve been very excited about! Book of Mormon has been an extremely popular musical on Broadway and we happened to win the lottery they hold every day and got front row seats! We also had the chance to see Disaster, the musical by Seth Rudetsky, one of the hosts of SiriusXM’s OnBroadyway channel. In case you’re visiting New York City soon I’ll give details of each place I’m posting about below the photographs!

Black Tap NYC - These shakes are even better than they look. Black Tap NYC – These shakes are even better than they look. Baked by Melissa - These cupcakes are almost gilt free because you can eat about 10 before you reach the size equivalent of a full size cupcake.  Which means 10 different flavors to try! Book of Mormon - Hands down, hysterical.  This musical is exploding with talent and stomach-aching laughter.  It could be considered inappropriate (read: very inappropriate) but if you can take a joke, I highly recommend this show. The High Line - an old train line converted into a walking park that floats above Chelsea.  It's beautiful, free, and very unique. Playing New York City

I’ve been fortunate enough to have visited New York City multiple times and I love it every time I go.  I feel that the city is alive and has a pulse of it’s own, and it’s constantly changing and evolving.  Every time I go I find a new place I love, make new friends, see old friends, get lost in the magic of it, and stumble into the most unique places.  I got to visit again this past weekend, but this was a VERY SPECIAL TRIP, because it was the first time I got to play a show in New York City! It was such a fantastic experience, and being my first time I was so pleased with how many people showed up and how much they loved my music.  Here are some photos from the show and a couple from my adventures around the city.  What are your favorite spots in New York?
