Have you ever had a really good cupcake? I mean really delicious; the kind with soft moist cake with the perfectly adequate amount of frosting for the size of the cupcake. That’s what Baked By Melissa is, with one tiny exception…all the cupcakes are BITE SIZED. Which at first my sound disappointing, but when you realize that you can try ten different delicious baby cupcakes for the calories of one typically sized cupcake any disappointment vanishes instantly! I have gotten Baked By Melissa almost every time I’m in New York City. I’ve tried most of the original flavors and I have yet to find one I don’t love. If you’re visiting New York City, make sure this pipsqueak bakery of awesome is on your to-do list!
Dylan’s Candy Bar
Having been to New York City several times, it’s surprising I didn’t make it to Dylan’s Candy Bar until this trip! I’ve heard all about it, and as a person with a strong sweet tooth I really should have visited before! It was just as adorable and imaginative as I could have hoped, with candy embedded in the floors! Every variety of candy I could think of was available and even customizable candy! We’ve all been to that souvenir rack that didn’t have our name, but here they have a “make your own” so no matter what your name you won’t be left out! From gummies of every variety to fudge this store is a candy lover’s dream!
Seeing Salem
I mentioned in my last post that we stopped in Salem Massachusetts, home of the Salem witch trials. We were heading from Portland Maine to my next show in New York City! As we drove through the neighboring towns to get to Salem it all seemed pretty normal, but then when we got to the center, it was clear that they acknowledged their witchy history. There were several shops dedicated to Magick and museums all about what happened during the Salem trials. We walked around downtown and got a taste of the town in this great little cafe! Have you been to any towns with an interesting history?

Holey Donut
When we were exploring the winding streets of Portland we found some of the most interesting areas, and then happened upon Holey Donut! It was early morning and that seemed to be where everyone was heading; once we were inside I could see why! It smelled great and they had a good selection of donuts and some unique signature flavors. We got the maple donut and the glazed sweet potato donut! They were both incredible and made our morning in Portland so memorable. What are the best donut stops in your area?
Playing Portland
I read an article about how Portland Maine often was overlooked for the more famous Portland Oregon, which instantly made me curious about it! Then when I got the chance to play in Portland I couldn’t wait to visit. Driving through Maine was something I wanted and it was so cool to be in one of the most northern areas on the east coast of the US. We stumbled into one of the top 10 donut shops in America that specialized in potato donuts…I’ll be sharing THAT experience in my next blog post! All in all, from the show, dinner, exploring the town, and the donuts, I wouldn’t mind visiting more of Maine!
Live Music In Burlington Vermont
I love touring. I love traveling to new cities and meeting new people at shows, it’s all so fun. This show in Burlington was great and so intimate compared to the bigger shows I play with my full band. During the day I get to hang and explore, but on show days I’m always really excited for the actual show to start! Arriving at the venue, sound checking, and beginning the set is always so exciting!
