The Inspiration Trick

What is inspiration to you?

As a songwriter, inspiration is something I’ve spent time studying and learning about.  I’ve found that inspiration is one of my favorite things because of what it can do for us as humans.  Inspiration motivates us to set GOALS, to reach for goals, to try something NEW, to be our best, INSPIRATION is something we all need.
InspirationInspiration
I find inspiration in nature, travel, art, goals, daydreaming, music, conversations, ideas, really anything can become inspiration and you never know when it will happen! To me, that is so fascinating and exciting!  Sometimes alone time can be inspiring – I know that can be the case for me.  Or maybe looking at people you admire on instagram is something that inspires you to dream and then set goals.
Inspiration
One source of inspiration that is particularly interesting is how we as people have found inspiration in other people.   You can be inspired by someone’s lifestyle, the things they overcame, and the things they achieved.  The BEST THING about this kind of inspiration is that it can occasionally masquerade under another name…jealous.  But instead of letting that envious feeling take hold, just look at it as inspiration.  Don’t let yourself fall into the trap of comparison, or letting yourself think, “well if I had that advantage I could be a  _____ too!”.  Instead just look at what they achieved and let it inspire you to be the best version of yourself and that you can achieve what they have and even more.
InspirationInspiration
If you can reprogram your mind to see something that you normally would envy as something inspiring you can STOP the comparison cycle.  It will help you make the jump to APPRECIATING something that once made you jealous, because you will start to think of yourself achieving something similar.  Change your thoughts…CHANGE YOUR LIFE.

Life Update August 2018

I took a little break over the end of July and August to focus onget spending time with my family and thinking over what I’ll be working on next!

I now find it crucial to follow my intuition and when I need a break to take one! It helps me write and create the best music, content, and keeps me refreshed!  Now, I’m ready to finish the summer strong and head into the fall!
So here’s a little update.

I GOT MARRIED!

It sounds so new to say “husband” but I’m excited to start a fun adventure with my love.  We got married on 8/8/18 and I’ll probably share the pictures once I get them back from the photographer!

MY 16-YEAR FRIENDSHIP WITH MY HORSE

My 29 year old thoroughbred crossed the rainbow bridge a few days ago.  It’s never easy to say goodbye to a horse, especially one you’ve had so long.  He was the perfect horse; beautiful, big, kind, sweet, gentle, and a true gem.  He will always be one of the most special horses to me and I will love him always.  I know he’s at peace now and I’m glad we got to spend so many wonderful years enjoying each other’s company.

SOMETHING NEW UPDATE

I’ve decided it’s really important to me to make empowering people, especially women, a consistent part of what I do.  I want to help them, and all people, find their power, the things they’re passionate about, and to live life to the fullest!  I’m not totally sure what that’s going to look like, but I’m working on it!
Life Update
It’s been a busy summer and now I’m excited to focus on the blog, new music, and empowering through speaking and music!  Tell me about your summer!

Kintsugi

I heard about Kintsugi several years ago.  I love Kintsugi…and let me tell you why.

I’ve heard people refer to themselves as broken.  Which always makes me sad because people are not broken.  They may need help, they may have shortcomings, but that’s just imperfect perfection.  It does NOT mean you’re broken…it means you’re HUMAN!

kintsugikintsugi

I think people call a heart broken when it aches, but it’s actually more like the pain you feel when you really hurt yourself and the pain is so intense it doesn’t register right away. It’s a slow rising brutal ache. But it’s not a break.

kintsugikintsugi

Your spirit can’t be broken. It can be changed. You might feel broken. But it’s really kintsugi. Kintsugi is the Japanese art of golden repair. If a bowl breaks it is repaired with a gold filing to bind the pieces back together. This is you. When something “breaks” you your spirit has the magic of kintsugi inside and it can fill you with gold too. Youll be even more than you were before, you have new golden magic sewn into your story.

kintsugikintsugi

So you can carry your “broken pieces” around with you cradling them in your arms forevermore or you can let your self love and your spirit do what it does naturally; take your experiences and spin them into gold to add to your being.

The pain is just the opening where the golden light gets in.

Pick Me Up Playlist

Obviously I love music, but I’m fairly particular about what kind of words I want to hear. Which is why I sometimes want a pick me up.

I think the music we listen to really matters, and that we should only be putting good thoughts in our minds!  These are some of my favorite songs to listen to when I might need a reminder to keep a positive attitude. What better way to show you what I’m talking about than the share the songs with you!  Every one can use a pick me up, especially half way through the work week! So here are 10 songs that I love to listen to to remind me of who I am and what I can do.

I hope it does the same thing for you!

Living In The Moment

What does living in the moment mean to you?

Sometimes I forget to take time to slow down and appreciate the little things that I really enjoy and that bring me happiness. And there are so many! But sometimes I just get wrapped up in whatever else I have going on and I totally forget to just enjoy the moment. Especially when it comes to documenting for social media (and memories).

Sometimes I feel guilty about it! Either way! If I’m not documenting I have fomo that I’ll regret not capturing the moment, and other times I feel regret if I’m not putting my camera down and taking in the moment!

What I’ve come to realize is, it’s all about balance. Take the photo and then spend another 10 minutes (or however long) just enjoying the experience. I often think I’m in much more of a hurry than I actually am. I feel a sense of anxiousness to “get on to the next thing”. But if I rush off to the next thing I can end up feeling like I didn’t really experience it.  So I’m working on slowing down to actually enjoy the moment not just document it.

happiness happiness

This was the case (and often was) when I visited somewhere and I’m only there for a short time.  Recently we spent just a few hours in Quebec City between travels.  I loved the city and didn’t want to miss any of it, but I also didn’t want to feel like I spent the entire time taking photos.  So instead, I balanced the time we had there with taking in the history and beauty and also capturing it.

happiness happiness happiness

Next time you start to feel like you’re living for a social media post or “the perfect shot” just take a step back.  Life is meant to be lived, and the truly perfect shots happen in a moment.  Don’t sacrifice every moment in your life trying to instagram it.  Look up, look around, and take it all in, and then if you need to, take a moment to capture the moment.

Talk To Yourself

How you talk to yourself matters.  The words you use matter.
The other day we were at a drive through coffee shop and we ordered, “Could I have a tea with honey, no milk”, and the woman working there said, “Got it! But for future reference, if you don’t want milk don’t say milk at all, because all we here is “milk” and you’ll end up with milk in your tea”.
Talk To Yourself Talk To Yourself
I realized she was right of course.  But it also made me think about the language we use.  You can say, “I don’t feel sad” or you can say, “I feel happy”.  They have similar meanings, but one has a positive connotations and the other a negative connotation.  Why does this matter?  Because the specific words you use affect the way you feel and affect your actions.  If you want to make a change in your life you have to start by changing the way to you talk; to yourself, to your family, to the world.
Talk To Yourself Talk To Yourself Talk To Yourself
You can do this in all sorts of ways and it’s simple to start and easy to get the hang of.  Before you make a statement think about the words; are they positive or negative? It’s really that simple.
At first you might feel silly, or as though it doesn’t really matter what words you use.  I promise you, it does matter.  Slowly overtime you will change your thinking to focus on the positive before you think of the negative.
Talk To Yourself Talk To Yourself Talk To Yourself
I once heard someone say that a small change in the direction at the beginning of a journey, even by five degrees, will completely change the entire outcome of where you end up.  Changing the words you use is exactly like that.  It’s such a small change but then impacts are huge; it’s a butterfly effect.
Talk To Yourself
What’s something you can change the language on from negative to positive and make a small change in your life starting today?
