This weekend I found out that just a few miles west of where I’m from is the cranberry capital of the world!
I like cranberries, maybe not right off the vine, but I do enjoy a nice cran jelly at Thanksgiving! Cranberry scented candles are also wonderful for fall. I enjoy a nice cranberry juice, or I like them dried in granola, so it seemed like a great fall activity to visit a cranberry bog! We arrived to find that many other people had the same idea with the weather being SO nice.
We didn’t let that stop us though, and got tickets for the whole experience; the bog plunge, the wagon tour, and the wine tasting! The plunge was such a fun experience! I’ve never put on waist-waders before and I felt like a space man walking through the bog; it felt so buoyant! Then we tried all the different wines they make at the bog.
All the wines they make there are from their cranberries, with the exception of the delicious blueberry wines! We ended up bringing a few different bottles home with us to commemorate our adventure. Lastly, we went on the wagon tour around the bog, which gave us a little cran-harvesting education.
We learned all about harvesting, some of the health benefits, and that there’s no animal that enjoys the tartness of the cranberry! It was a beautiful day and it was wonderful to spend so much of it outside enjoying the autumn colors and the crispness of the fall air and the tart cranberry.
